Salvation is the most crucial and most important aspect of our Christian race, yet it seems to be the most trivialized aspect of Christianity today. This generation is so encumbered by things that only edify the flesh, while the soul is left unattended; a generation with the mindset that the goal is to die rich; a generation for which the love and worship of money has become the standard, while they gradually lose sight of the God who owns gold and silver.
This edition of Timeless Facts magazine is titled, “THE FUEL OF SALVATION.” Before we delve further, let’s establish the meaning of the two key words in the title of this edition, which are “fuel” and “salvation.”
Salvationis the saving of human beings – man – from sin and its consequences by confessing and accepting Christ. Salvation is the exchange of our sin for Jesus’ righteousness. Jesus took our position of penalty so we can have his position of favour. Salvation is made possible by the following steps: hear the gospel of Christ; believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God; repent of all past sins; confess that Christ is your Lord and personal saviour; be baptized by immersion if you haven’t done that before for total remission of sins, and maintain a conscious life of holiness and righteousness so as not to fall into sin again. (Roman 10:9-17)

Fuel is a substance that is used to provide heat or power, usually by being burned. Wood, coal, oil, PMS, and gas are all different kinds of fuel. Premium motor spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, is majorly used to power vehicles, and once its quantity becomes low in any vehicle, we discover that the vehicle in most cases either stops working or the engine of the vehicle stops working at full capacity. In some cases when a vehicle runs out of petrol, even after refilling the tank, other components of the vehicle are already affected.
The same can be said about salvation. Once a born-again believer falls into sin, even when they repent and rededicate their life, in most cases the damage has been done already; hence the need to guard our salvation jealously.
As we constantly refill the fuel of our vehicles, we must continue to fuel our salvation with conscious and intentional effort to live a holy life by constantly studying the word of God and strictly obeying the instructions contained therein.
Our understanding of salvation, the most fundamental aspect about Christianity, casts direct and dramatic implications upon every aspect of our Christian life. Since it is foundational, everything else will be aligned according to how it is placed, positioned, and understood. (Psalm 11:3-7)
Therefore, if our understanding of salvation is false or skewed, then the entirety of our faith will be disastrously based on a shaky foundation – one that might fall or give way under any circumstance. But if our understanding of salvation is rightly established, then it will be a firm foundation whereby the rest of our Christianity can be effectively built, accurately aligned, and increasingly reinforced.
Indeed, if we get salvation right, it will fuel, empower, influence, and transform every part of our Christian life. If Jesus is positioned as the cornerstone of our salvation – as He should be – then He will be like the only key to an ever-so-formidable door, unlocking everything we need for life and godliness. (2 Peter 1:1-5)
He who wins souls is wise, therefore, we all must be committed to spreading God’s gospel, ensuring souls are won into the kingdom. Your main purpose on earth is to bring more people into the kingdom, not just by your words, but by your actions at all times. (Mark 8:34-38)
In conclusion, living a holy and righteous life does not in any way hinder your prosperity or fame on earth, rather it guarantees your earthly relevance while you are heaven-bound.
