Who is a woman and why did God create her?
God created a woman for the purpose of being a mother, for nurturing, influencing, helping, and impacting. A woman is a female human being. Genesis 2:23: “And she shall be called Woman”, not a man. God created a woman out of a man for the purpose of her assignment in the life of the man. If God did not have a different assignment for the woman, He would have created two men.
A Woman’s Assignment and Reason For Her Existence
● To be a helper to the man whom she is meant to complete, and not to compete with him.
● To be a positive influence to her husband, her children, and the society at large, because she is created with the capacity to do so.
Therefore, no matter how strong or intelligent a woman is, she can never possess the stamina of a man; she has her own unique assignments that she has been built for. (Genesis 2:20(b)-23).
There are examples of women in the Bible to learn the benefits of fulfilling purpose from, and the consequences of failing in one’s assignment:
● Eve: Eve failed as a wife. She also failed as a mother. If a woman fails as a wife, she will likely fail as a mother. Cain, Eve’s son, killed his brother because he lacked the fear of God and was not properly taught His ways.
● Sarah: Abraham would not have become the father of nations if Sarah was not an obedient and faithful woman that God could count on to also become the mother of nations. Whatever assignment God gives a man, He puts a woman by his side to help him complete or fulfil it.
● Deborah: Even though she was the nation’s judge, she knew the boundaries and her priorities as a wife.
● Hannah: Though unable to conceive for years, which caused her husband marry another woman, she refused to let go of her marriage. She focused on her husband and did not relinquish her assignment for petty jealousy. This earned her more love and respect from her husband, and paved the way for an answer to her prayers (1 Samuel 1).
● Abigail: A wise woman who saved the life of her foolish husband and her household with her good character, eventually becoming King David’s wife after her husband’s death (1 Samuel 25:2-42).
● The Shunammite Woman: A woman who feared God and, though childless, she showed kindness to a stranger whom she later discovered was a Man of God. This caused God to remember her (2 Kings 4:8-17).
● Jezebel (King Ahab’s Wife): A greedy, wicked and controlling woman who destroyed her husband’s life (1 Kings 21:7-10).
● Ruth: A kind, compassionate and selfless woman who refused to abandon her mother-in-law after her sons’ death (Ruth 2:16-18).
● Esther: The bold queen of an eccentric king who went on her knees without food for three days, praying for the lives of her people who were about to be wiped out. (Esther 4:15-16)
● Mary: A God-fearing and obedient young woman who was ready to go through shame to please God.
● Elizabeth: A Minister’s wife, who supported her husband’s ministry and carried the same Spirit as him. She was eventually favoured by God.
● Sapphira: A selfish, conniving woman with no fear of the Lord, who discouraged her husband from being faithful to God, and was only interested in accolades (Acts 5:1-11).
● Eunice & Lois: Mother and Grandmother of Timothy, who both raised him to love the Lord. Lois, being a grandmother, did not relent after raising her daughter to love God, but continued with her grandson. What a woman!!! (2 Timothy 1:1-5)
● Lydia: The virtuous woman. A business woman and a philanthropist, who made a tremendous impact in the lives of the poor and widows (Acts 16:14-15).
● Prophetess Jezebel: A prophetess of doom. An adulterer and fornicator, leading people to hell instead of heaven (Rev. 2:18-19; Jude:1-7).
Are you fulfilling your purpose in your marriage, family, career, business, ministry etc.? In all of these, there is only one purpose: to make a positive impact on people’s lives. If you are not making an impact, you are failing already.
Only selfish, naive, and vague women think about their happiness alone without the happiness of others. They are “slay mamas” who destroy the destinies of their husbands and children. Every woman is an influencer, either positively or negatively. Pray to be a positive influencer who will begin to make a strong impression on your family and society in Jesus’ Name.
God is waiting for you to take your assignment seriously.
