In 2022, the group won Best Contemporary Christian Music Album at the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards. At that show, Maverick City Music became the first in the genre in more than two decades to perform during the televised ceremony.
Maverick City Music is an American contemporary worship music collective founded by Tony Brown and Jonathan Jay, originating from Atlanta, Georgia, USA 2018. The collective made its debut in 2019 with the release of two extended plays, Maverick City, Vol. 1 and Maverick City, Vol. 2. In 2020, Maverick City Music released two live albums: Maverick City Vol. 3 Part 1 and Maverick City, Vol. 3 Pt. 2, with the former featuring the singles, “Man of Your Word” and “Promises”.

The collective later released their first collaborative EP with Upper room, You Hold It All Together (2020) which was followed by the holiday-themed EP, Maverick City Christmas (2020). In 2021, Maverick City Music released several projects, the most notable being their second collaborative EP with Upper room, Move Your Heart; a collaborative album with Elevation Worship titled Old Church Basement which contained the hit songs “Jireh”, “Talking to Jesus” and “Wait on You”; and Jubilee: Juneteenth Edition, which attained commercial success and garnered widespread critical acclaim. A Very Maverick Christmas (2021), Breathe (2022), Tribl Nights Anthologies with Tribl (2022), Simple Adoración (2022) and Kingdom Book One with Kirk Franklin (2022).
Maverick City Music is managed by Undivided Entertainment, which is led by Norman Gyamfi and Walter Thomas. The collective’s team includes Chandler Moore, Naomi Raine, Brandon Lake, Aaron Moses, Joe L Barnes, Harold Brown, Anthony Brown, Jonathan Jay, Maryanne George and Lizzie Morgan, and their label home is Tribl Records, where day-to-day contacts for the group are Leonard Brooks and Stephanie Valcarcel.
