Captain Isangadighi Wisdom: Africa’s First Professor of Practice in Aviation Management

My name is Captain Isangadighi Wisdom. I am a senior airline captain with many years of experience in aviation, spanning both flight deck operations and flight operations management. I take great pride in my profession, with a strong commitment to safety, professionalism, and ensuring a calm and comfortable experience for everyone entrusted to my care.

My life journey has never followed a straight line. It has been shaped by curiosity, discipline, and a constant desire to grow, both as a professional and as a person. When I look back, one clear thread runs through everything I have done, and that is focus. This single quality has guided my academic path, my aviation career, and my approach to leadership and service.

I began my academic journey with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. At the time, I was drawn to science and the logic behind it. As I progressed, I realized that my deeper interest was not only in formulas and experiments, but in people. I became fascinated by how they think, how they lead, how they make decisions, and how they build systems that create impact. That realization marked a turning point in my path.

I transitioned into the social sciences, earning a Master’s degree in Social Science, followed by a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Philosophy in Entrepreneurship Management. Each step expanded my understanding of leadership, organizations, and human behavior. My desire to learn did not slow down. Wanting to study leadership at the highest level, I went on to complete a Doctorate in Business Administration, a Doctorate in Business Management, and later a PhD in Executive Leadership.

Along this academic path, I became a Professor of Management and contributed to research through journals and books focused on leadership, entrepreneurship, and organizational growth. Beyond degrees, I also pursued practical training, including diplomas in Conflict Management and Resolution, Transport Management, and Project Management, as well as certifications as a Certified Management Professional and a Chartered Management Consultant. These were never about collecting titles. They were about becoming better equipped to lead, solve problems, and add value wherever I serve.

While academia became a strong pillar in my life, aviation has always been my first love. Today, I serve as a senior airline captain, responsible for carrying thousands of passengers safely through the skies. I was recently awarded the title of Professor of Practice in Aviation Management, making me the first in Africa to receive this prestigious recognition.

As a pilot, impact is measured in safe flights and the trust of passengers and crew. As a researcher and writer, impact comes through ideas that help others think clearly and lead responsibly.

One of the most challenging periods of my journey came during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aviation was shaken worldwide, and many careers were left uncertain. It was a defining moment. I chose not to lose focus or give in to fear. Instead, I leaned on discipline and long-term thinking. That season led me to write a book on focus and discipline, turning a difficult period into an opportunity to contribute and grow.

During tough moments, my greatest source of motivation has always been my father. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I call him. He often shares a simple image that has stayed with me. Life, he says, is like a man carrying a load on his head. When he walks a mile and gets tired, he sets it down, rests, and when he is ready, he lifts it again and continues. But he never abandons the load. That lesson has shaped my mindset. Rest is allowed, but quitting is not.

Over the years, my work in aviation and academia has received international recognition, including the Global Excellence in Business Leadership Award in Canada and a Global Recognition Award in the United Kingdom. I am also a Fellow of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Management Consultants, and I serve on the Board of Trustees of a higher institution in Nigeria. I see these roles not as status symbols, but as responsibilities. They are opportunities to serve, guide others, and raise standards.

To young people reading this, my message is simple. Start with yourself. Stay focused. Stay disciplined. Do not cut corners. Growth takes time, patience, and consistency. Keep learning. Face challenges with courage. Choose your circle carefully. The people around you can either strengthen you or slowly drain you.

My final words are these. I come from a place where focus and discipline shaped my life, and those values still guide me every day. No matter where you are starting from, clarity of purpose and commitment to growth can take you much farther than you imagine.

To Timeless Facts Magazine, which has graciously deemed me fit to be featured in its prestigious publication, I extend my heartfelt appreciation for this remarkable opportunity. I applaud your vision and the meaningful work you continue to do in bringing outstanding individuals from diverse disciplines to the attention of the world. It is a profound honour to be considered worthy of this platform, and I remain deeply grateful for the recognition bestowed upon me.
